This is correct, and I was writing about it myself in my wordpress days. However, only recently did I come across another extreme. I was attending a webinar by an "Investment Coach" who happens to originate from the same village as me. He spent first five minutes of his talk explaining what kind of shithole he came out of. I felt insulted, I like it here, there's nothing wrong with this place. He probably wanted to emphasise his success as a trader, but I also think that deep down he's just insecure and full of issues.
I came to believe that a healthy measure lies somewhere inbetween these two extremes. There is nothing wrong about being proud on your origin or current (cultural) habitat, as long as you are able to recognise the same qualities elsewhere too. And that is humanist, I believe. Any kind of exclusion isn't.
