My experience with schooling was different but it still makes sense in the light of autism. I had terrible grades, mostly because I detested the compulsory methods of schools. I responded with rebellion or disgust. I had obsessive interests (like botany or astronomy), but if those topics appeared on the curriculum, I began to hate them (temporarily). Sometimes I think I choose to become an architect simply because primary and high school didn't yet have a chance to ruin it for me. University, however, was very enjoyable for me, despite the hard work. The lack of compulsion made all the difference.
