I've struggled with this question for years. When alone, I feel like a superman, when I place myself in context of other people, I feel like shit. Then I realised that I have two sets of standards; one which I apply for my self alone and another set imposed by the society. By my own standards (and what I find valuable in life), I shine, but society - as you write - has something different in mind. And by those merits, I suck.

It is very hard to find peace between these two contrasting sets of standards and assume a middle ground. With time, it might work out well for us.
