I thought about it a lot and we're completely on the same page with this one. The only fly in the ointment seems to be the fact that skipping elections (or casting a corrupt ballot) doesn't bring the system (you and I are advocating) forward. It is just a silet act of defiance.

A workable solution is to adopt Swiss-like system where the most important decisions are taken locally or on a referendum (which is the most direct form of democracy I can think of). Local government has a lot more skin in the game than the higher-ups who live in their own kingdom.
