I think many of us are coming to the same conclusions. There is a lot of my own thoughts in this article; I too struggled with a writer's block after the Russian invasion, it was so suffocating. Then I put news on need-to-know basis and it is better now. I am not trying to be ignorat, but I'm not helpful to anyone in the state I was in.

And after that, a healthy measure of optimism returned. Correction: pragmatism! Just as you point out in the end.
