I share a lot of your sentiments expressed in this article, but there is also true that some exhibitions are genuinely good and worthwhile. At best, they blast you into an unexpected realm and leave you breathless for days to come. They will change the way you see photography or the world in general.
It is true that many photographers exhibit just because they want to exhibit. The critics and curators are then forced to write some bullshit text to go along. They deliberately use "muddy" words, because muddy water appears deeper than it is. At the end of the day, their job is to keep people coming to the galleries because that's what this whole business is about.
If you're into photojournalism and if you can afford it, I strongly suggest you pack your bags and go to Perpignan for the Visa Pour L'Image festival (early September) and you'll get an overdose of really world class photojournalism. Or perhaps Arles or any other bigger photo festival.
