For a short while, my much younger self was a fan of Richard Dawkins, the atheist conquistador. It was when his book "The God Delusion" came out and I read it with zest. I was really passionate about it.

Much later, life happened and I realised that things are not that simple. What began to bother me was that Dawkins & co. are picking on simple modest people, like grandmas who go to church every Sunday. I mean, pick somebody of your own size, will you? It's just mean, isn't it?

I still have a deep respect for the "old Dawkins" (the one who wrote The Selfish Gene), but this atheist militarism does not resonate with me. If he wants to go against the religious extremism and the violence it causes, that's fine, but that is another subject entirely and I'm not sure how much it has to do with the Religion he is attacking.
