Flying Cars aren’t Coming Any Time Soon

They look fun, but that’s about it.

Recently I’ve been paying some attention to this Jetson company which is already booking orders for their “flying car” or better a drone with a driver’s seat in it.

It sure looks amazing! Not just to the flying enthusiasts, but to anyone who has ever been stuck in a traffic jam.

So can we solve traffic issues with such an aircraft?

Well, no. And here’s why.

First: Safety

I’ve been flying small camera drones for years now and it has always been my fantasy to be able to sit in one of them.

Then again; I’ve also experienced one or two nasty crashes and a lot of very chilling situations that by some miracle ended well.

I’ve seen how quickly can things go wrong for an airborne object. Floating in the air gives you an extra dimension to fuck things up and crash. When the road at least offers some friction to slow you down, the vertical drop only accelerates you to the ground.

With all the modern AI technology (including GPS & motion sensors) it is still dangerous. Even a small DJI drone can quickly turn into a flying brick that can kill and destroy whatever it smashes into.
