Although I appreciate your reasoning (in favourable environments I don't feel disabled at all either), I would still opt for the disability option. I can hardly find a situation in my life in which I didn't pay the toll for my social/facial blindness. I would like the system to recognise and compensate for that, not just on practical but also on legal grounds. People who have involuntary (medical?) setbacks in life need systemic help.
