Absolutely. You identified the trends well and the only reasonable thing to do is to build your future towards self-sustainability. It is an impossible goal but you have to do whatever you can. I'm expanding my garden every season, I purchased tanks for rain water, in the autumn I plan to build a green house, etc. AND; I'm locating farmers who can provide me with staples like grains & potatoes (which I cannot grow, because I don't have enough land nor time).
