5 Slovenian Proverbs to Kickstart 2021

Every culture has its own repertoire of proverbs which helps inoculate each new generation with knowledge and wisdom of centuries. Some are tailored to needs of that time and geography, but some are universal and worth sticking to everywhere. Here’s a list of some of our very own proverbs which never ever let me down.

1. Kdor zgodaj vstaja, mu kruha ostaja.

Direct translation: who raises up early has bread in abundance.

Many people in “business community” recognise the value of early rising. But the knowledge and the habit has been there for centuries. Every monastic tradition in the world, regardless of the underlying religion, requires its members to get up very very early and meditate, pray or study. The brain is fresh, the mind clear and mental focus sharp as a needle. If you want to get shit done, this is the time to do it and people who practice this routine, according to the proverb, have bread (as a metaphor for wealth) in abundance.

2. Dobro blago se samo hvali.

Direct translation: good merch praises itself.
